Frequently Asked Questions

How many times can I use each transfer? +

You can use each iron on transfer between two and five times, depending on the colour and type of fabric. The longer you press with the iron, the more ink transfers and the darker the lines become. Every pack includes a set of test transfers so you can work out the right pressing time for your fabric before starting your project.

Do the pattern lines wash out? +

The pattern lines are designed to be covered by your stitches rather than fully wash out. Any visible marks will soften and fade over time and with washing, but they aren’t intended to disappear completely.

What fabrics are iron on patterns suitable for? +

Iron on embroidery patterns work best on smooth, light-coloured fabrics such as cotton, linen and light denim, where the lines transfer cleanly and are easy to see. They aren’t suitable for wool, textured fabrics or very dark materials, and the fabric must be able to withstand your iron’s hottest setting. You can also use the transfers on paper and card for crafting projects.

What size are the patterns? +

Each sheet measures 21cm by 29cm (approximately 8.25 by 11.5 inches). In the product images you’ll find a scale photo with a ruler, so you can see the exact size of each design before you begin stitching.

Are they suitable for beginners? +

Yes, iron on embroidery patterns are perfect for beginners. The easy application process means there’s no tracing or guesswork. Every pattern comes with my 16-page embroidery tips booklet, which includes guides to four basic stitches and plenty of beginner-friendly advice to help you get started with confidence.

What else will I need? +

To get started, you’ll need a few embroidery basics: fabric (cotton and other smooth natural fabrics work best), embroidery thread, a needle, small scissors and ideally an embroidery hoop to keep your fabric taut while you stitch. You can find all the hoops, threads, needles and tools you need here.
